Japanese rock singer and actor Nishikawa Takanori, commonly known as T.M.Revolution, will be inaugurated as the Councillor for the Manga-Anime Guardians Project at a special ceremony held on Mar. 26 at AnimeJapan 2017.
The Manga-Anime Guardians Project (MAGP) is a project that seeks to take comprehensive measures against digital piracy and support official platforms where fans worldwide can enjoy manga and anime legally. Initiated by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and the Content Overseas Distribution Association, MAGP is also supported by numerous industry leaders including Studio Ghibli, Good Smile Company, and Shueisha.
As a prolific singer and pop culture icon, Nishikawa has contributed theme songs to many famous anime and related works, including Rurouni Kenshin, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, and Soul Eater. Popular titles like these have often been exploited by illegal manga and anime websites, which the MAGP explains is more often than not solely for individual profit.
At his inauguration ceremony, Nishikawa will be joined by Furusawa Yoshihiro (executive producer of Kimi no Na wa.) and Okeda Daisuke (lawyer and head of the Manga-Anime Anti-Piracy Committee) as guests, as well as Danny Choo (CEO of Mirai Inc. and creator of Smart Doll), who will be acting as moderator. The panel will not only officiate Nishikawa as the Councillor but also discuss MAGP’s future initiatives.
