Crowdfunding Planned to Build Giant Mazinger Z Out of Balloons

Toei Animation‘s Mazinger Z film is slated for next year but the company is planning a much larger-scale campaign to promote the film, and I mean that figuratively and literally.

The film’s official Tumblr announced on Tuesday that a crowdfunding website is scheduled to launch on July 15. The site will gather funds to create a large-scale Mazinger Z robot that will appear at promotional events and film screenings. It won’t be just any robot, though. This hero will be made entirely out of balloons.

The screenshot of the upcoming campaign site shows a goal of 2,500,000 yen (US$22,095) the apparently going rate for balloon robots.

The Manzinger Z film will open in Japan on January 13, 2018. Toei Animation describes the completely original story:

Humanity was once in danger of its downfall at the hands of the Underground Empire, which was led by the evil scientist Dr. Hell.
